If you've made it this far, you're probably wondering what Instant Fantasy Sports is all about and what makes it different from every other fantasy sports game you've ever played. Okay, here goes:
If you play in a fantasy football league on ESPN or Yahoo, or if you play in the WCOFF or the NFFC, or if you get a group of ten friends together in someone's basement, the general format of most leagues is the same. You have a bunch of owners, you agree on scoring, rules, and payouts (if you're playing for money), you all get together before the season starts to draft your players, and then you root for the guys you picked for the next seventeen Sunday afternoons. Sometimes there are trades or free agent pickups, but for the most part the guys you draft before week 1 are the guys who are going to win or lose the league for you.
Instant Fantasy Sports takes that fantasy football format that we all know and love and tweaks one major thing about it: the time frame. Instead of leagues lasting the whole football season, they last a week. Everything else stays more or less the same. A bunch of owners get together before the games start, we agree on the rules and the money, we draft our players, we root for them for one game, and then the owner whose players scored the most points is the winner.
What makes this weekly format better than the season-long leagues that everyone plays in now? It's not "better," exactly, it's just different. Instant Fantasy Sports appeals to a wide range of fantasy players. See if any of these sound familiar:
If you're a fantasy sports junkie, if you're in eleven season-long leagues and advise your little brother about his roster moves on the side, if the Hilton you think about most is Redskins TE Zach, Instant Fantasy Sports is for you. What's the best part of fantasy sports? What do we all look forward to the most? Say it with me: the draft. What's better than draft day? Nothing. On our site, every day is draft day. We give you the freedom to draft teams as often as you want. We have leagues forming and drafting around the clock, all week long, throughout the football season, so you'll never have to wait to get your draft on.
If you have a life outside of fantasy football, if your job or your family sometimes takes you away from following every sprained ankle during the week, if you sometimes have trouble keeping up with those two fantasy football geeks in your league, Instant Fantasy Sports is for you. Our site has no trading or free agent moves. Teams don't carry over from week to week, so you don't have to worry about maintaining a roster. All you have to do is find an hour or so any time during the week to do your draft. It could be that one night when you have some time to breathe, or it could be right before the games kick off on Sunday morning. Or maybe you just don't have a free moment this week. That's okay. Our games will be here for you whenever you do, and there's no penalty for taking a couple of weeks off. You'll be right back on level ground with the geeks when you come back.
If your first round draft pick gets hurt every year, if you always find a way to select the wide receiver who develops an attitude problem in week four, if you have a history of having to cut players because of impending incarceration, Instant Fantasy Sports is for you. Injuries and poor performance can really ruin a season-long fantasy football team. If your first round pick tears his ACL in the second game and your third rounder doesn't live up to the preseason hype, your team has little chance to compete. The worst part when something like this happens to your team is that the season has just started and you know you have no chance to win the league. No matter what you do, the rest of the football season is going to be filled with losses for your hopeless squad. It happens to even the best fantasy owners. Injuries and poor performance are impossible to predict sometimes. Luckily these factors have much less of an impact on our site. If you draft a guy and he gets injured in the third quarter of the game that week, it's true that you won't get any further stats for him that week. But that's when the pain stops. Since rosters don't carry over from week to week, you don't have to suffer for the rest of the season because of one unlucky injury. Just come back next week and pick a new team.
So that's how it works. As football season approaches, we're getting excited about bringing this new kind of fantasy sports contest to you. We'll be launching right before week 1 of the NFL season. We're going to be relying a lot on user input to decide how we shape the site, so if you have any questions or comments, please send them to info@instantfantasysports.com. If you haven't signed up for our mailing list yet, enter your email in the box in the upper right corner of this page and we'll remind you to come check us out when we launch.
